we woke up late *again* for brunch this time @ Tamago Ya. a nice cosy place near our hotel for eggy JAP stuff aka egg omelette rice etc ~ lunch look so much alike the ones on display (just too good looking to eat~!) in the window.
after lunch, we headed out to Dan Shui 淡水 by MRT and it was a short ride (approx 30-45min from Ximen 西门 MRT). we were greeted by good weather, beautiful scenary and MASSIVE CROWD. Talk about a packed weekend :s
more of our sight seeing
our gunners
our purchases
our tasting of local delights
trying out something new --> boat ride instead via bus to Fisherman's Wharf and off we go, to purchase ferry tickets for this part of the journey to Fisherman's Wharf to Bali island (yes, do not doubt your eyesight.... its not the same Bali of Indonesia but Bali of Taiwan) and back to Dan Shui 淡水 MRT. we can "pit stop" at any point and board the ferry again before their closing time = flexibility for discovery~!
our SEA ride
more of Fisherman's Wharf
unfortunately, we were low in batt to capture anymore scenary shots of the sun setting @ Fisherman's Wharf ~ sigh ~
taking a break at one of the harbour's cafe, enjoying a cuppa and LIVE music :)

last stop: Bali island (Taiwan) for seafood dinner however a little disappointing .... nonetheless, it was still an experience to remember ~ it was so *brrrrrrr* cold by the time we headed back to mainland (Taiwan) for home as the wind was blowing and we were practically freezing our face off while on the boat ride home. hahaha..!

our train ride from KaohSiung 高雄 back to Taipei was approx 6 hours. we played cards most of the time to entertain ourselves. the locals were friendly too, gave us plenty of ideas of what to do and where to go in Taiwan. i believe these ideas will be very helpful for me to plan the next visit here though 'm not exactly sure when.. hahaha ~!
went back to our hotel - Chengdu (Royal Castle) to leave our shopping bags before proceeding to our next stop ---> Wu Fen Pu 五分浦. a wholesale garment district that's similar to Chatuchak Market in BKK (not as cramped) however much BIGGER! getting there was simple, take the MRT to Ho Shan Bei 后山埤 station exit 4 and walk about 5mins west along Yongji St. it was drizzling hence i couldn't share much photos with ya :P see some of our purchases below ~
point to note ~ if you wanna buy clothes that suitable for SIN weather, please do schedule your trip at the right time. we couldn't buy much cos it was winter season during my trip there!
went to Rao He 绕河 night market for our dinner and it was very crowded. perhaps its due to the rain since everyone was SQUEEZING for shelter. we managed to find seats and had our 1st try sinking our teeth into 鲁肉饭 (highly recommended by my frens at home) = ultra small pieces of meat stew with a very thin layer of fat on it. this is definitely not my regular diet here @ home but what the heck, since we're already here, we might as well gotta try it, right?! WOW ~ m glad that we went ahead with it cos you could just taste the spicies and the meat literally melting in your mouth! yummy~!
more food pics for ya (though i did not try this but would be an interesting view of what chinese like to eat) :P
i couldn't resist salt & pepper prawnz... yummy!
the long awaited pepper buns 胡椒饼 ~ another highly recommended dish by my frens @ home. it was still drizzling while we waited for our turn to purchase some. long queue but luckily was still moving quite smoothly. the meat was well marinated, very tasty and i'm still missing it today~!
our day ended with grocery shopping, BI~RAIN and cute handphone strap purchases for my frens at home :P
see a HAPPIE Grace with Rain :)
check out our room, the surroundings and the Hot Spring pool.
FYI – each room’s equipped with a bathtub, which can be filled with Hot Spring water and you can enjoy a nice dip in the comfort of your own room. not bad!
our comfy bed :)
spring water tub in room
mountain view outside our room
hot spring pool view from breakfast area :P
we were late for breakfast as usual. luckily, it was a weekday hence it wasn't that crowded and not so strict to clear the food on time.
we made an impromptu decision to travel to KaohSiung 高雄 by train. luckily was able to purchase the tickets on the same day (they do not allow advanced booking ~ duhz ~ yes, i know… very inconvenient~!), so OFF we go~!
during our journey – we passed by vast of lands and the coastline… and the sea view was fantastic! our train ride took about 4 hrs. yeah ~ it was boring alright. luckily brought a pack of cards and we entertained ourselves playing “Dai Di”, read, eat and sleep ~!

once ETA KaohSiung 高雄, we headed straight to the Tourist Information Centre (still my favorite place!) of the train station for more info before deciding what to do next. got the staff there to search for domestic flight info (approx NT2000 each pax if travel by flight back to Taipei 台北 – shorter time as compared to normal train ride which is approx 5-6 hours) and also posed many questions for them. should we try our luck with Taiwan’s Bullet Train (from KaohSiung高雄 to Taipei 台北)? should we stay the night and discover more of KaohSiung 高雄?
conclusion: YES! KaohSiung 高雄 ~ here we are!
we checked into 建国 hotel that was approx 8 mins walk away from the train station for the night. it was cheap accommodation considering the costs shared by 4 pax though a little low-down. the staff were really friendly – gave us ample of advice as to where to visit and SHOP in Kaohsiung since we do not have a lot of time here.
our clean room with HARD beds :P
our clean but SHABBY washroom~!
headed out for some light snacks as we didn’t plan to have a proper dinner – visiting Liu He 六河night market was in place. found this eatery place 八方云集, just opposite our hotel which serves freshly made dumplings – you can have it pan-fried or steamed and they tasted great!

next, we took a cab to Ai He 爱河 river. that night was chilling cold ~ pretty much since we’re near the waters and its sea breeze blowing in the night?! cost of the boat ride was cheaper than we thought; only NT50 per pax! must try for 1st timers in KaohSiung 高雄.
like any other boat rides (similar to what we have @ Clarke / Boat Quay), a presenter aka tour guide was on board to share with us the history of Ai He 爱河 river ~ 12KM in length and approx 3m deep. 1 bridge will be built approx 500m length hence having built a current total of 22 bridges now.
see our night shots - collection of Ai He 爱河 river, its surroundings and the local people (well.. children to be precise) while we were on our boat ride.

after our river trip, we took a cab and proceed to our next stop ~ SHOPPING!
something we dun see everyday :P
KaohSiung 高雄 is truly a shopping heaven ~! Harajuku Yujhu 原宿玉竹 is a DEFINITE MUST GO in KaohSiung 高雄. things are fairly cheaper there as compared to Taipei and Singapore! the sisters (Grace & Moi) bought a total of 5 bags, 4 pairs of shoes, pouches etc within 1.5 hours! Grace & Simon even commented about this place being very much similar to the one in Japan but only cheaper! it was truly a very fruitful shopping trip as we had too much to carry (so we went back to the hotel to unload our winnings).

we were pretty hungry after our “shopping battle” ~ we walked to Liu He 六河night market approx 15 mins away from our hotel.
Liu He 六河NM ~ an interesting and very crowded place! so much to see, eat and play! we shared our “makan”, had our fill, played a game of mahjong and we won! our prize in return ~ a soft toy PIG! LOL ~ indeed a very “fruitful” NM trip!
also found an interesting stall selling pretty souvenirs and everyone of us bought something for our friends and family back home: price negotiation is necessary!

found a nice little spot to take a break after our long and "challenging" day from shopping - Crown Cafe! this is a really nice place to chill if you ever visit Taiwan. do not MISS it~!
yummy selection of cakes!
missing the strawberry shortcake!
